Wells Fargo Arena will play host to an NBA preseason game October 16 between the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors. The game is being presented locally by Wells Fargo.

Tickets for the game start at $21 and will be available to the general public Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m. through www.dahlstickets.com, the Wells Fargo Arena Box Office, by calling 1-866-55-DAHLS, and all Dahl’s Foods Locations. Starting today Energy season ticket holders can reserve their tickets by calling (515) 564-8550. There will be a pre-sale on Monday for members of the Iowa Events Center Cyber Club and Iowa Energy VIPs. To sign up for the Cyber Club, visit iowaeventscenter.com.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring NBA basketball to Des Moines,” says Global Spectrum’s Chris Connolly, General Manger of the Iowa Events Center. “This is the first NBA game that Wells Fargo Arena will host since opening its doors on July 12, 2005, and to have Harrison Barnes playing his first game in the State of Iowa since leading Ames High to back to back State Championships is exciting for everyone who has been following his career.”

“Wells Fargo prides itself on being a community partner,” stated Don Pearson, President of Wells Fargo. “We accomplish this in many different ways, by encouraging our Wells Fargo Team Members to volunteer for community based events, and sponsoring events that take place in Des Moines. Those events include the Principal Charity Classic presented by Wells Fargo, the professional teams that play inside Wells Fargo Arena, and now this NBA preseason matchup between the Nuggets and the Warriors.”

The Golden State Warriors finished the 2013-14 season in 2nd place in the Pacific Division with a record of 51-31, and received the 6th seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. While they were defeated in 7 games against the LA Clippers, they have an exciting young roster, play an exciting brand of basketball, and have a new coach in Steve Kerr. October’s game will include the return of Golden State’s forward Harrison Barnes to Wells Fargo Arena after winning back-to-back State Championships with Ames High School in 2009 and 2010. Barnes was selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge during the NBA All-Star Weekend this past February in New Orleans where he scored 16 points and had three assists in Team Hill’s 142-136 victory over Team Webber. The Warriors roster also includes Western Conference All-Star Stephen Curry, one of the premier scorers in the NBA. Head Coach and former NBA player Brian Shaw steered the Denver Nuggets to a 36-46 season. The Denver Nuggets have the 11th pick in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft.

Veterans Memorial Auditorium has played host to a number of NBA exhibition and preseason games in the past, including a preseason game between the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors on October 24, 1993 and an appearance by Michael Jordan when the Chicago Bulls took on the Milwaukee Bucks in 1985.
