Road Construction:

Mills Civic Parkway just west of the South Grand Prairie Parkway intersection will be closed on Wednesday, March 23, at 9 a.m. so that crews can construct new pavement on the west half of the intersection. The road should be open for traffic in approximately 10 to 14 days, weather permitting.

Southbound to eastbound traffic from South Grand Prairie Parkway to Mills Civic Parkway and westbound to northbound traffic from Mills Civic Parkway to South Grand Prairie Parkway will be able to get through the intersection during the closure.

Internet Access Launch:

With the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, Google Fiber will celebrate the launch of ultra-fast internet service with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Google Fiber Space. From the release: “West Des Moines is a forward-thinking city, driving innovation to ensure it can meet the challenges of the future. With this conduit network, the city is making it easier for internet service providers to deliver services to the citizens of West Des Moines. Google Fiber is happy to collaborate with the city on this important effort.”

Candlelight Vigil for Ukraine:

From the City of West Des Moines – The City of West Des Moines to host a Candlelight Vigil for Ukraine

The City of West Des Moines Human Rights Commission and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) will host a Candlelight Vigil for Ukraine at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater by City Hall on Thursday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m.

The public is invited to attend this event, which will feature a performance of “Prayer for Ukraine” by the Valley High School Vocal Music Program.

The City Council is expected to pass a resolution declaring March 24 as a Day of Solidarity with Ukraine.

Speakers at the event include Mayor Russ Trimble, Councilmember Renee Hardman, DEI Director Audrey Kennis, and WDM Human Rights Commissioner Rev. Milton Cole-Duvall. In addition, Valley High School students Matthew Zhuravlov and Marharyta Tataryna, both from Ukraine, also will speak.

Attendees are encouraged to wear blue and yellow in support of the people of Ukraine. Donations may be directed to the following organizations that are assisting in relief efforts:

UNICEF

Parking is available in the City Hall parking lot and attendees may bring chairs and blankets. The Valley Southwoods forum area will serve as a backup location if the weather becomes an issue.
