Wickett’s 2022 NFL guide!

The NFL Season is here and I’m here to tell you what’s going to happen in every division and who’s going to win the Superbowl this year. You can take all of these predictions to the window and bet your life savings. (NOTE: Do not do this). Now let’s get some stuff right and some stuff wrong! (Did ANYONE have the Bengals last year?)

SHORT VERSION: Packers over Bills in the Superbowl.

LONG VERSION:

AFC EAST

The Buffalo Bills are the clear favorite here and why shouldn’t they be? If not for some of the worst 13 seconds of coaching in NFL history, they may have been Superbowl champs. They’ve got the MVP frontrunner in Quarterback Josh Allen. They’ve got the weapons, a championship defense (added EDGE Von Miller this offseason) and this team is ASCENDING. They’ll win 14 games and host the AFC Championship game. The Miami Dolphins hype is exaggerated but they WILL be better with Tyreek Hill alongside Jaylen Waddle at WRs. They’re a 9 win team. The Patriots & Jets will fight it out to see who sucks the least.

AFC NORTH

Before Lamar Jackson got hurt last year, the Baltimore Ravens were the #1 seed in the AFC in December. They’d go on to lose every game after & wouldn’t make the playoffs. This team also lost it’s entire secondary and starting backfield to injury. Lamar is gonna win his 2nd MVP this year (it’s the most “contract year” in history”) and I’m banking on the football gods to not crush the Ravens in 2022. They win 13 games & the AFC North. The Cincinnati Bengals are poised to run it back & should compete for the division title. If Jacoby Brissett can stay healthy & keep the Cleveland Browns afloat until the suspended Deshaun Watson comes back in week 12, they could make a run at a Wild Card but there may not be enough time. As for the Pittsburgh Steelers? They’re starting Mitch Trubisky. Nuff said. Enjoy 4th place.

AFC SOUTH

Nobody saw Running Back, Jonathan Taylor having THAT kind of an impact last year but WOW. He’s an MVP candidate. The Indianapolis Colts ditched Carson Wentz for Matt Ryan. If they can find consistent playmakers at the wideout spot, this team (and their loaded defense) should CRUISE to a division title at 12-5. The Tennessee Titans don’t seem to fit any mold. They traded AJ Brown. Julio Jones is now in Tampa. But they do have Derrick Henry who finished 9th in rushing last year despite only playing in 9 games. Prepare for 10 wins, Nashville. I officially bought into the Dameon Pierce hype coming from the Houston Texans (6 win team) and invested a LOT of draft capital in him. The Jacksonville Jaguars are getting BETTER but I don’t see more than 5 wins in DUVALLLLLLL.

AFC WEST

There has never been a collection of Quarterback talent in one division like there is in the AFC West this year: Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson and Derek Carr. I’m buying the “all they needed was a quarterback” line about the Denver Broncos & picking Russ & company to win this LOADED division at 11-6. ELEVEN WINS will win this thing. The Kansas City Chiefs & Los Angeles Chargers will both win 10 games. Someone may not make the playoffs due to crazy NFL tiebreakers. Carr is a good quarterback. Maybe even a great one. But I’m sorry – Davante Adams is wrong. The only way Derek Carr is getting into the Hall of Fame is as a spectator. Prove me wrong, but this Las Vegas Raiders team is missing the playoffs at 8-9.

AFC Playoff teams: Bills, Ravens, Broncos, Colts, Bengals, Chargers, Chiefs

AFC Championship: Bills over Ravens

NFC EAST

Trading for AJ Brown may have been the best offseason move any NFC team made this year. Brown is an elite talent and should be exactly what Jalen Hurts needs plus the Philadelphia Eagles have a trio of capable running backs in Miles Sanders, Boston Scott & Kenneth Gainwell. They’ll win the division at 12-5, one game ahead of the Dallas Cowboys who traded Amari Cooper to the Browns and now have lost LT Tyron Smith for (likely) the season. This will be Mike McCarthy’s last year in Dallas. Get ready, Sean Payton. The Washington Commanders brought in Carson Wentz who somehow is an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke & a one-legged Alex Smith. This COULD be a good team…but it won’t be. ALSO: Even with new Head Coach Brian Daboll the New York Giants will suck. Maybe Saquon Barkley will help your fantasy team (but i doubt it).

NFC NORTH

The most overrated storyline of the NFL offseason is going to be how terrible the Green Bay Packers wide receiver room now that Davante Adams is in Vegas. Aaron “FOUR TIME MVP” Rodgers and this passing offense will be just fine…eventually. More on that HERE. They’re loaded on defense. This is your #1 seed at 13-4. The Minnesota Vikings WILL be scary but it will take a bit of time to get new Head Coach, Kevin O’Connell’s system down. (The defense sucks, btw). As a guy from Detroit, I’m not buying into ANY Detroit Lions hype. It’s SOL (Same Old Lions – 6 wins). And the Chicago Bears are gonna compete to be the worst team in the NFL. The lack of improvements on the offensive line may kill Justin Fields career.

NFC SOUTH

I’m going with the New Orleans Saints. I’m buying Jameis Winston here. He threw 9 touchdowns and 1 INT in his final 5 games last year before getting hurt. Give him a healthy Michael Thomas (maybe) + Jarvis Landry & Chris Olave? AND I get Alvin Kamara back? AAANNNDD that defense? 11 wins and a “surprise” division champ. I have no idea what’s going on in Tom Brady’s personal life & I don’t care. I DO know that kind of stuff can affect most humans in their jobs, even NFL players. New Head Coach. No Gronk. BUSTED interior offensive line. I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wins 9 games and I still think Brady left for 11 days to record The Masked Singer. The Carolina Panthers are banking on Baker Mayfield at quarterback and Christian McCaffrey staying healthy. Good luck with both of those…but hey, at least you’re not the pathetic Atlanta Falcons who MIGHT win 4 games this season.

NFC WEST

It’s tough NOT to pick the LA Rams to win this division again. They’ve replaced Robert Woods with the NFL’s most underrated wide receiver in Allen Robinson. Von Miller is gone but they added Bobby Wager on defense. Cam Akers should be a top 12 running back. I’ll confidently pick them (and Matt Stafford’s elbow) to win this division…but look out for the San Francisco 49ers. This team looks to go deep in the playoffs (again). They’ve got weapons ALL OVER & their defense is top 5. It comes down to this: Can Trey Lance play? The Arizona Cardinals paid Kyler Murray WAY TOO MUCH MONEY. He & his head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, have proven NOTHING in this league. (I talked at length on Kyler here). Call me when you both don’t collapse after Halloween. You won’t hear too much out of the Pacific northwest this year other than at the trade deadline cuz the Seattle Seahawks won’t be making much noise.

NFC PLAYOFF TEAMS: Packers, Rams, Saints, Eagles, Bucs, 49ers, Cowboys

NFC Championship: Packers over Bucs

Superbowl: Packers over Bills

MVP: Lamar Jackson

Happy Football season!!
